This Is Your Village

Time for a little time out...
I wanted to thank you again for sharing your love and your child's love with all of us at the Muse.
I chose Kindermusik because I found it was one of the best music enrichment programs on the market.
As I mentioned in our class on Monday 1 - 9 - 12 , it is important to keep music and learning a gift and fun. It should never something that one 'has' to do. It is something one "gets" to do.
"Lets keep the concept of wisdom as a cherished gift for our children and they will continue to grow and love to learn and explore more and more about themselves.
After all that is why we are here isn't it?
Every week I will post the great part of Kindermusik. Its "Foundations of Learning" concepts. Or FOL's .

We will be holding another class on Saturday starting the 21 of January at 2:30
"The Bears All Night Party."
This little story is very cute and will be for children 5 years old and under.
Daura Driscoll will be team teaching this class with me on Saturdays for about a month or so.
We will have a little tea party with snacks for our production for family members only in Feb .
The cost is $60 for 6 weeks.
Call the Muse or check in with me if you want to be part of  Pinky's Playhouse Theater.

Lesson Focus For Village Class Cock A Doodle Moo

Stop and Go
Music is sound and movement, and it is silence and stillness. Just as we experience sculpture in terms of where it begins and ends in space, we experience music in terms of where it begins and ends in the time that surrounds it.

“Stop and Gp” games such as this are key in developing inhibitory Control/ Inhibitory Control is the ability  to stop one’s self. With well developed inhibitory control children will be able to take turns, communicate with others and generally control their own behavior. In order to have a well developed sense of inhibitory control babies must first learn that the world is a safe and predictable place.
Stop and Go games such as this version of Old MacDonald , With a predictable pattern during which the adults will stop their movement, help babies learn to anticipate the stop and start . Baby begins to understand the structure and pattern in the song much the same way she will begin to understand structure and pattern in spoken language. The enjoyment of the anticipation and delight at the predictable “surprise: of the stop and the go will set the stage for the development of inhibitory Control

Labeling Movement
Remind adults of the importance of labeling each type of movement for Bay. Movement labels should be from the Baby’s perspective, not Adults For example if the Adult is carrying Baby so they are facing on another , The Adult will herself be moving backward while the labeling “forward: for baby. Adults may expand their movement vocabulary during free dances using words from the movement chart.

Reading
Believe it or not, by the time babies reach their first birthday they will have learned all the sounds needed to speak their native language! The more parents read aloud and the more you simply talk to babies they more words the child will understand and the more likely he r she will be to use those words when they talk. Hearing words helps to build a rich network of words in a baby’s brain. Kids whose parents frequently talk / read to them know more words by the age of 2 than children who have not been read to. And Kids who are read to during their early years are more likely to learn to read a the appropriate time.
Reading expressively to your child helps to foster social and emotional development. Reading also invites your baby to interact as they look, point, touch and answer questions- all of which promote social development and thinking skills. The illustrated provide a visual element which will enhance the language development by helping the child in understanding the words he and she is hearing

Barefeet
No shoes and socks please.
I mop the floors daily now and I would love for you to be barefoot.  Also keep me informed on the heater.
Next week we will move our rung out from under the heater so we all do not feel like we are in a Hot Yoga Session.. Hey we might be onto something girls !  Just kidding...

Barefoot is best for Baby Baby learns through his senses, especially on the bottoms of the feet. The sensory input from the bottoms of the foot sends information directly to the brian about the texture, temperature, and contour of the surface. When barefoot, the child doesn’t need to use his or her eyes to look at the surface under his feet creating an unnatural posture, but rather can sense where the floor is and make adjustments with appropriate posture. Their bare feet give them the proprioceptive sensory feedback that allows them to learn balance and a stable base of support.

Self-Awareness
With 5 boys the one thing I noticed was that they love to mimic each other.. Like little monkeys.
When these little miracles start to associate with others of their age, the miracle of self expression really starts to kick in.. " Hey who are you? Your just like me tiny?
Hello Hello is a great beginning of self identity. The words are in your baby journal.

This welcome song acknowledges Baby’s developing self - awareness by addressing her individually by name According to Kathy Hirsh-Pasek, a child development psychologist and co-director of the Temple University Infant lab in Ambler,Pa, “...By 4 1/2 months infants are already tuned in to listening to the sound of their name, its stress patterns and the sounds that go with it.”  Using each child’s name in this Welcome song will help the child make an emotional connection with this song and activity from the start. This song also encourages social interaction by inviting her to respond with a greeting- whether it be to look  c, or wave for the first time. you may find that Baby learns new behaviors from singing this song each week.

Brain Development
These exercises we do each week are for different aspects of Brain Development

Holding Baby in a variety of positions lets her experience a variety of perspectives, which stimulates brain development. In fact scientists now believe that to achieve the maximum function of the adult brain, stimulation in the form of movement and sensory experiences during the early developing years os necessary. Relaxation
The 15 min "Snap" or How I saved my sanity with an egg timer..Don't forget "The advice from Grandma Louise, take 15 mins every day to lay down and not think or do anything.. Just stop for 15 mins. Have your partner or a friend take your little one for 15 mins. Set your egg timer and go lie down.. Know that someone will come wake you up in 15 mins and I promise you it will change your life..( I do not promise very often by the way.)
Relaxation is a learned behavior, especially in today’s hurried American Society. Setting aside this time each week not to be engaged in an active, thinking activity helps Baby learn to enjoy quiet play and learn that relaxation can include times other then nap time and bedtime.
